MyHomeTuiton.com: Our SPM online home tuition is a type of e-learning which provides
interactive input and output learning for students online. Most online tuition websites only provide output learning, meaning that they provide only questions for students to do, but for us we provide both the input and output learning. Students can learn online (input) whenever they want and they are also comprehensive exercise (output) for them to practice.
NST: Is online tutoring a major part of your business? How has the reception been from the market?
MyHomeTuiton.com: Yes it is a major part of our business. We have been working on producing it for the past few years and we are going to introduce our SPM online tuition course in September.
NST: How does your online tuition service work? Who prepares the material and is there personal coaching involved?
MyHomeTuiton.com: Our online home tuition is an asynchronous e-learning course, meaning
students can access our programs online at anytime, and learn at their own pace. Our online lessons are pre-created flash slides, enriched with interactive flashcards and mind maps which will help students to remember better.
Our material is prepared by teachers with over fifteen years experience in teaching. There may be no personal coaching but as experienced professionals we know what kind of problems students encounter when studying. Therefore, in our course, we list down all the questions possibly asked by students and then provide solution for the questions. There will also be a forum for students who have any questions.
NST: What are the costs involved and are there specific technical requirements on the user or the tutor side?
MyHomeTuiton.com: Costs range from Rm80 to Rm600. This depends on the products we offer ranging from flash cards, comprehensive exercises to intensive classes. All users need is a personal computer with broadband internet service.
NST: There are pros and cons to online tutoring- especially in the aspect of making sure a student who signs up actually use the service properly. How do you deal with this?
MyHomeTuiton.com: The pros are that students are able to have tutoring anytime having
subscribed to what subject they need tutoring in.
I have realised throughout my time of teaching that no matter how weak the student is, the student will still wish to do well in his or her exams. What they need is guidance from experience tutors. Once they found that a tutor can help in their learning, the will start gaining confidence and putting in hard work. In a nutshell, as long as we can provide what the students need, they will appreciate it. With our engaging interactive flash slides, mind maps and flashcard, we believe we can help all students to improve in their study.
NST: Do you think online tutoring is gaining popularity here in Malaysia? What are your plans to capture more markets?
MyHomeTuiton.com: Online tutoring will definitely gain popularity in Malaysia. Since the
penetration of broadband is increasing and the price of PC is reducing, it allows people more access to e-learning. This allows all the multimedia content through the internet to be delivered smoothly to the user.
Furthermore the advancement of the rapid e-learning software that simplify the creating and delivering of content. This drastically reduces production costs and increases the quality and speed of delivering of e-learning content.

Current, we only have Physics. Chemistry and Add Math are going to be available next year (2010).
